Motion Capture

I have got experience using a professional motion capture suite where I helped set up the motion capture suit with the capture nodes and calibrated it with Motive Body. During the session I made sure that the suit stayed in sync with the skeleton displayed in the Motive Body software.

After capturing all of the data it was exported out of Motive Body with all of the tracking data attached to a base skeleton which makes applying this data to a rig a lot easier. The character used for this project was not created by me because the reason for the project was to learn how to utilise motion capture technology. To put the motion capture data onto the character rig Motion Builder was used, to do this the skeleton from Motive Body was matched to that of the character using Motion Builders actor tools. This then matches the movements of the character rig with those of the body actor captured in the suite.

After applying the data to the rig everything was exported to 3DS Max to be cleaned up and then to Unreal Engine 4. All of the movements from the actor sync perfectly with the character in Unreal 4 making this a very successful project. In a future project I'd like to make an animation set from what has been recorded and incorporate it within a game using animation blueprints to smooth everything together.
